Describe what SEO is in business/marketing terms?
SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, in business and marketing terms, refers to the set of practices and strategies aimed at improving a website’s visibility and ranking on search engines like Google.
The primary goal is to enhance the chances of the website appearing in relevant search results when users search for specific keywords or phrases related to the business or its offerings.
SEO involves optimizing various aspects of a website, including content, structure, and backlinks, to attract organic (non-paid) traffic, increase online presence, and ultimately drive business growth and customer acquisition.
What are some misconceptions companies seem to have about SEO?
SEO is really a misunderstood topic. And there are so many misconceptions about SEO.
I will talk about few main misconceptions of SEO.
SEO is just about buying links:
While links are crucial, SEO encompasses various factors like page loading speed, title, and content quality.
It’s not just about the quantity but the quality of links that matters.
SEO is a one-time effort:
Many mistakenly believe SEO is a one-time task.
In reality, it’s a continuous process for long-term success and improved results.
SEO is dead:
Some claim SEO is ineffective due to AI algorithms, but proper implementation is key.
Factors like page speed and user experience now play crucial roles. SEO is not dead, it has evolved.
Quantity of links is not as important as Quality of links:
Focusing on link quality is more beneficial than building a large quantity without considering their value.
The more you use keywords on a page, the better it will rank:
Keyword stuffing is counterproductive; quality content is essential for improved rankings.
You just need to target the right keywords — content doesn’t matter:
Simply targeting keywords without delivering high-quality content won’t lead to better rankings.
You don’t need to worry about your title tag or meta description:
Neglecting these elements can impact search rankings and traffic.
You don’t need to create content often:
Consistent content creation enhances SEO by providing new opportunities for website discovery.
Backlinks are great no matter where they come from:
Backlinks from untrustworthy sites can harm credibility and ranking.
You should only focus on earning backlinks:
Focus on internal links, not just backlinks.
Internal links contribute to user engagement and signal relevance to search engines.
If you don’t get the first position, your SEO is failing:
Ranking first doesn’t define SEO success.
SEO success is a nuanced process, and rankings may improve over time.
Your mobile site doesn’t impact your ranking:
Mobile site impacts search ranking.
Google considers the mobile version of a site, so a mobile-friendly design is crucial for higher search rankings.

Discuss some mistakes companies make when it comes to SEO?
The first mistake I usually come across that people come to me saying that they have done 1 month of SEO work and I invested $100 and they are not ranking anywhere.
It doesn’t work like that, there are 1 billion websites on the internet and you invested $100 in SEO, you cannot rank, you need to stay continuous with it. It is a process.
It is the most common thing I have experiences.
Second would be that they think On-Page doesn’t matter. They will use duplicate content from competitors and expect that they would rank.
You cannot rank this way, you need relevant content, you need to match up with today’s guidelines. It’s 2022 not 2010 that anything work.
Third one would be that people think more number of links means more rankings.
That’s not true. You need to have good number of links but it’s quality over quantity.
If you think you can get 1000 random links and beat your competitor.
But it doesn’t work like that, if you have even 100 links that are of high quality, you have better chances of beating your competitor even though he may have 1000+ links.
These are basic mistakes a lot of people make.
