Google recently revealed that they would remove the generic rich filter section from their Search Console’s performance report. Due to this, one will not check how their rich results are performing in aggregate.

Google also gives the reason for this sudden removal of this filter. This article will discuss Google removing generic rich results filters from search console performance reports.

Why Would Be Google Removing Generic Rich Results Filter?

After Google removing the filter, it won’t be a major loss for anyone. Because of the presence of other breakout filters such as event-rich filters and reports.

Using these other filters, one can keep track of most of the individual rich results.

Although Google clarifies that they will keep on providing their full support towards generic rich result search appearance until the official date of its termination arrives.

The Official Announcement

Google disclosed that the generic rich result filter would go off on 1st August 2021, not just from Search Console but also Application Programming Interface abbreviated as API. At present, Google Search Console supports 19 different search appearance results in their performance report.

Google claimed that it is being called off because Google reports to the individual rich results and that they think that grouping data for rich results is not the ideal thing to perform since every other type has some specific behavior that may differ from one another.

So that is the main reason behind their decision to remove the Rich Result search appearance.

What After Its Removal?

After Google removing the Generic rich results filter on 1st August, one will neither be able to find the Search Appearance filter for the rich results nor report on the generic type. But other rich result sites for which your site qualifies will remain unchanged under the search appearance filter.

Google also confirms that site owners won’t be facing any trouble regarding data loss since performance reports in the search control will provide individual rich result types in their respective breakout rows.

Conclusion

In short, we are losing a filter that is currently present in Google Search Console’s performance report. But According to the announcement of Google removing generic rich results filter, this filter was not that helpful or useful as a tool for the owners of the sites.

Instead, Google recommended every site owner use filters on individual result types. Since they are much more competent in providing exact ideas and details than the generic rich result category.
