Title Tag Best Practices

Google suggested seven best practices for creating title tags that influence what you see in the search results.

Let us know what they are:

  1. Avoid overuse of keywords. Although sometimes it’s helpful to have a few descriptive words in the title. There’s no reason to use the exact words or phrases multiple times.
  2. Ensure that all pages have a title tag.
  3. Steer clear from phrases that repeat throughout the site. It is crucial to have a unique title for every page.
  4. It should be clear which headline is the main headline of the page. You can consider using a larger or different font for the main headline to make it more prominent.
  5. Your title tag needs to be explanatory but crisp at the same time.
  6. Branding your titles concisely is very important. Using branding phrases is acceptable, but it does not mean that you should use them on every page on your website.
  7. Use the robots.txt to avoid google from crawling your pages, but it may not always prevent your page from indexing. Abusing robots.txt will only land you in trouble because google can still go through your page by using the anchor text that links to the page. So the best way to avoid your page’s indexing is to let google crawl through it.
